This pipe is a fascinating early patent varient of the later shape 82 triangular shanked bull dog. On this pipe the three points of the triangle have had their points flattened out, creating a modified hexagon shape in both the shank & the stem. The transition of this tricky stem geometry into a comfortable & very well executed button is a minor work of art unto itself. The color & grain are first rate, the beading is fully intact and the rim is nicely chamfered. A tres cool early 'woodie by any standard.
